The digital revolution in the building services engineering design industry enabled the TBE TECHNOLOGIE team to take our collaboration with Trimble to the next level.

Over the course of the last years we’ve been successfully using Plancal Nova for integrated CAD/BIM solutions. This is why we’ve decided to expand the use of Trimble’s portfolio with their 3D Laser Scanners.

This will allow our engineering team to collect useful 3D data of existing buildings with their physical and functional characteristics in a reduced amount of time. Our team can then create an accurate as-built 3D model in BIM using software such as Autodesk’s Revit and MicroStation from the laser-scanner captured data.

3D Scanning to BIM models

The 3D scanning technology uses laser beams to scan the existing building’s measurements. Each collected measurement point helps construct a user-friendly digital representation in the form of a point cloud.

The resulting point clouds can be imported seamlessly into the BIM system for our team to model more effectively.

The Benefits of BIM Modelling from 3D Laser Scanning:

  • A high-density Point Cloud of existing buildings
  • Precise creation of a BIM 3D-Model with the desired details
  • 3D Scanning allows quick data compiling
  • Reduced human error risks
  • The information can be shared faster with everyone involved

Laser scanning technology is becoming a key element in the integrated BIM workflow as it can be applied at various stages of work, even granting us a final cross-checking of the element position with the BIM to confirm that our 3D model matches the installed position.

The value of Scan-to-BIM is that data gets collected easily from the field and imported smoothly into BIM, allowing everybody involved in the project, from surveyors, to project managers, building teams, interior designers and architects to work collaboratively with our engineers on the overall project.
